Arrow Rest Selection

One of the most critical factors in good arrow flight is the performance of your arrow rest. If your vanes touch any part of your rest the accuracy will suffer, especially with broadheads. Fortunately there are many good arrow rests on the market today.

The first arrow rests that I used were the shoot around or flipper style. Fletching contact is a given with these arrow rests and I had a difficult time achieving good arrow flight. The experts say that feather fletching will work well with these rests but I like the durability of plastic vanes.

After reading a glowing article about a Bodoodle arrow rest I purchased one and was very pleased with it. It was called a Timberdoodle and was designed more for a finger shooter but worked real well for me shooting with a release. Bodoodle arrow rests are still available and are sturdy well made rests.

Whisker Biscuit rests are widely used. My son and I both used one for several years and Ryan still does. They can be a little tough on your fletching, but we reduced this by going to a smaller and stiffer vane.

You can see what we think of this rest here.

The whiskers on my Whisker Biscuit had worn down, so in true I want to try something else fashion, in 2015 I switched to a Cabela's Clench Capture Arrow rest. I've used this rest through one season and was very pleased with it. It comes with five different launchers that can be replaced when one wears down or if you like a different color.

I tried a fall away rest about 10 years ago and didn't like it, but some time I'll have to give one a try again, but the Clench Capture is performing well enough that I'm not in a hurry right now.
