August 4th Whitetail Deer Pictures
This album of Whitetail Deer Pictures contains digital scouting camera pictures taken in the weeks before August 4, 2005. We had a total of 988 pictures to look at from the three digital game cameras that we had out. It's hard to pick 6 pictures from 988.
We've identified about eight different bucks in this group of pictures. We are still getting pictures of spotted fawns and a couple of spikes have showed up, one with spikes less than two inches long.
From some of the pictures it looks like the bucks are nearing the end of antler growth. We'll keep watching to see when their antlers stop growing and their velvet starts to shed. The bucks seem tolerant of each other now but that should all change in a couple of months. I may be able to get some reaction from rattling antlers and grunt calls this year. I'm looking forward to the start of bow season.
This wide seven point looks good but doesn't look like he's trying to get that other brow tine at all. There is something genetic going on at our property. The nine point in the following pictures is having a hard time getting two brow tines as well. The deer behind the seven point is an odd six point that we believe was the deer wounded last year. Last year he was a typical eight point but it looks like after being wounded he's growing a set of antlers that remind me of a mule deer.
This buck will be a ten point if he can muster up enough calcium and minerals to get his second brow tine grown. It looks like he's having a staring contest with the rabbit. This is the first year we've sween rabbits near our feeders.
This wide eight point buck was a surprise for us. I thought that he was the wide seven point and then noticed that he had both brow tines. We think he may be the buck that showed up here late last season whom we called the short tined eight point.
We've now captured several pictures of deer sniffing the winch handles on our feeders. My dad had just lowered the feeder a few hours before this picture was taken. These were the first deer to show up after he left. The fawns are also kind of cute.
This eight point buck has some height but is real narrow. It's interesting to see the different genetic make up with these bucks. There are many differences in height, width, brow tines and tine length.
Take a look at the spikes on this young whitetail buck. I'm guessing they may be ten inches long. He's been showing up a lot lately with a young six point buck.
