Deer Feeder Tripod - Deer Feeding Made EasierAs you may already know we were using homemade wooden ladders to fill our feeders that we had hanging from tree limbs. This served us well for many years but always had its drawbacks. The homemade ladders were getting old and needed a lot of repair in order for us to continue to safely fill our feeders. The areas under our feeders were getting, and have always in the past became, very muddy. I hate to throw the corn out into the mud for the deer to have to root around like pigs. Water holes would also develop under the feeders. Appropriate trees to hang the feeders from were not always easy to find as well. We have known for a few years that a tripod system for our feeders would alleviate most, if not all, of these problems but just had not went ahead with it. I wanted to try to build a deer feeder tripod myself at first, but after pricing the materials I realized that I couldn't build one myself any cheaper than I could buy one. Finally we and ordered a deer feeder tripod from Cabela's so that we could try one out and see how it worked. Before ordering, we put a little thought into it and decided that if we were going to get a tripod then we might as well do it right. In addition to having a deer feeder tripod that we could put wherever we wanted we also wanted to get one that had a winch on it so that we could lower it to fill it, instead of continuing to have to climb up something to fill it. We are also able to utilize the feeders that we already have. We bought the tripod from Cabelas made by Game Tracker. It is a 15 foot high tripod with a hand crank winch. After assembling and using the first one, we went ahead and ordered one for our other feeder. The deer feeder tripods are the way to go. We can now simply crank the feeder down, back our ATV right up and fill it up and crank it right back up. The raccoons have mangaged to climb the tripod legs and steal corn from us. We've made varmint cages that are about two feet in diameter to keep them out. These new homemade varmint cages have worked great. The pulley on one of our tripod feeders seized up late in the summer. We hung a real pulley over it and it now works better than ever. We would rather not have had this problem but we still do not regret buying these tripods. They have saved us a lot of climbing on old wooden ladders over the months.
