Durana CloverBefore planting the Durana Clover in our hayfield food plot we disked, applied 500-pounds of lime and 200 pounds of 10-10-10 fertilizer. After sowing the seed we ran over it with our ATV’s to provide seed to soil contact. We only planted about a quarter of an acre in our first planting. This planting took place on May 11th after a very wet spring. This food plot had been planted in an annual in the spring and fall of 2006 where it had also been limed and fertilized. As of writing this in late August I have to say that I am very impressed with Durana Clover. It has grown into a low ground covering of clover that has weathered a dry stretch and heavy grazing by our deer. There is little doubt that it is highly palatable to deer by the hundreds of pictures we have been getting on our digital trail cameras located at this food plot. We’ve photographed more deer in this food plot than we have in any of our other food plots. One additional thing that we have noticed is that Durana doesn’t seem to thrive as well close to the woods where it is shaded more. I wouldn’t recommend this clover for a highly shaded area, but would not hesitate to plant it again in any less shaded plot. We're anxious to see how it does throughout the fall and next spring. We planted another quarter acre next to the established plot on August 22nd. After this planting the weather was very dry for over a month and the new plot struggled to break through the ground. We finally recieved some rain and it did manage to start up, but rather late. It will be interesting to see how this new plot does in the spring.
