Friday Buck Season UpdateA button buck and a spike came to keep me company at about 7:30. I could hear crunching in the frosty leaves in the woods over the hill on a couple of occasions but could never identify what was there. If I had been in one of my treestands I could have had a better view, but I was glad to be huddled inside of the blind to try to stay warm. I know that the feeders are like hubs with deer often traveling close but never visiting the feeder but in such cold weather I couldn’t resist the added warmth of the blind. After filling the deer feeders and checking the digital scouting cameras I sat in a treestand at the oldhouse for about an hour. The temperature was in the twenties but the bright sunshine felt warm on my face. At 3:00 I had a date with Ryan at the blind in the middle clearing. We started our vigil a little after 3:00 and saw a button buck and a five point buck shortly after. At about 4:30 a 7 point came in to eat and stayed awhile, allowing us to get a good look at him. Once again there was something walking around in the woods just out of sight. Finally at 5:20, with daylight waning, a wide racked 8 point buck came in from behind our blind. He circled around us and came out into the road making his way to the feeder. He never got real comfortable and didn’t stick around long enough for Ryan to get a shot. This 8 point looks to be at least 16 inches wide but didn't appear to have a very big body. He's likely a young buck with good potential. This evening was one of the most enjoyable times we have had so far this season; three bucks and almost a shooting opportunity. It was a great evening. A look at the digital scouting camera pictures the next day revealed that the 8 point came back to the feeder at 7:20 PM.
