January 25th Deer Pictures

The past eight days have been the coldest days of our winter to date. We had temperatures that plummetted to 0 degrees and stayed very cold for a few days. With this cold weather we still had cameras hang in there and take pictures throughout. There were also some cameras that lost battery power. I've been doing some different things with batteries to test them and some of my tests didn't work out well this week. It was good to see that some of the cameras were capable of working in these cold conditions.

We didn't find any more shed antlers and we didn't see any bucks who had shed their antlers since we last photographed them. I need to look at last years pictures and see when they shed their antlers, I never remember this from year to year.

The four point buck that looked like he had some blood around one of his antler bases last week still had his antlers and we got one picture of him sparring with a bigger buck that you will see below. It was interesting to see them still pushing each other around this late in the year.

As I said last week the bucks look healthy. Hopefully this will lead us into a good antler growing year. It doesn't look like the bucks ran off a lot of body weight during the rut this year. I'm going to credit this to a buck to doe ratio that isn't too far out of whack around out area.

These pictures were taken with our Camtrakker Digital Ranger, Trail Watcher 2060, EagleEye and Trail Watcher 2040.

January Buck Fight

Here are two bucks sparring on January 19th. The four point has been an aggressive little buck for a four point.

Non-Typical Buck

Here is our non-typical eight point buck.

Close Rack eight point buck

A small close racked eight point buck and the aggresive four point buck.

Nine point buck

The nine point buck in the cold. He looks like he has a huge neck with his fur fluffed up.

Eight point buck

The eight point buck on the right and the nine point on the left have shown up together a lot in our pictures since deer season has ended.

Six point buck

With his fur fluffed up this young six point buck could fool you into thinking he is a much older, bigger buck.
