January 6th Deer Pictures

Welcome to our first set of deer pictures in 2008.

I was a little surprised that we didn't find more pictures of bucks who had shed their antlers. The spike who had lost one side in the last set of pictures was still holding his lone spike this week as well. We didn't get any pictures of the six point buck that we had been seeing the past few months. I suppose it is possible that he may have shed his antlers and we didn't notice it in the pictures. He may also not have showed up around the other bucks if he is now without his headgear. They are good at keeping us guessing.

It looked like most of the other regulars showed up this week but we didn't get any pictures of the big buck that showed up last week. It looks like he was just a one night visitor.

We still captured close to 50 pictures at the scrape, but I've decided not to put a camera back at this location. Since we won't get to check our cameras as often during the winter I'm concentrating them on the feeders, mineral licks and the feed trough. Once all of the bucks drop their antlers I'm going to take down one feeder so I'll then have extra cameras to put elsewhere and when the food plots green up I'll start monitoring them again.

These pictures were taken with our Camtrakker Digital Ranger, Trail Watcher 2060, EagleEye, Trail Watcher 2035 and Stealth Cam I390.

Two whitetail bucks

A small eight point is on the right and the wide four point is on the left.

Licking Branch Buck

Here is a small four point buck at a licking branch.

Two whitetail bucks in the snow

A nice picture of two bucks in the snow. Notice the snow on their backs.

Nine point buck

We should get to watch this buck grow his antlers for the third year in a row. I hope he doesn't get too reclusive as he gets older.

Eight point buck

Our best eight point buck.

Non-typical eight point buck

Here is the eight point with a short left beam. We're curious what he will look like next year.
