Leaf River Game Camera Picture Quality
I gave the Leaf River scouting camera a C on the Game Camera Review. For general scouting purposes the Leaf River may suffice but picture quality is poor overall.
The most frustrating thing to me is the poor picture quality during the dawn and dusk hours. Just at the time when deer are most active the picture quality is the poorest. For some reason the flash doesn’t go off at these light levels. During dawn and dusk I will get pictures where I can tell that there is a deer there but cannot tell much about the deer.
The Leaf River takes the best pictures in the bright daylight. When conditions are just right the pictures are not too bad. Picture quality is also not bad when an animal is close at night. Unfortunately most of the pictures are not taken in these conditions.
The pictures will also have a blue tint to them at times. These blue tinted pictures are not particularly bad, just disappointing when compared to a good digital game camera.
Similar to the other cameras the rain does have an effect on the pictures but this is very limited. The difference between poor pictures due to rain and poor pictures due to the flash not going off at dawn and dusk is hard to discern at times.
I had a hunter e-mail me telling me that he kept getting several pictures that were all white each time he downloaded his Leaf River pictures. I had not had any of these until June and I finally had one show up. I don’t know what causes this but I haven’t had any more in the following two months. Here is the one that I got.
A few of the better quality pictures from the Leaf River Scouting Camera can be seen on the Whitetail Deer Photographs Pages.
