NiMH Rechargeable Batteries
|
When I purchased my first digital camera to take pictures of our food plots for this website I became real frustrated when alkaline batteries would die after about a dozen pictures. I was ready to take the camera back; buying batteries was going to break the bank.
I started to do a little research and read on a forum that some people were having success using NiMH rechargeable batteries in digital cameras. Of course, I also read some opinions that said that they would not work at all. I found a set of rechargeable batteries with a charger relatively cheap and thought that I might as well give them a try. I think that original set of batteries and charger cost was under ten dollars.
I’m still using those original batteries and charger and have purchased more and also have received others with a couple of the digital scouting cameras that I have purchased.
I've now learned over the years that the rechargeable batteries start to loose their capacity once they get older. It would be nice if they lasted forever but they don't. These batteries are still cheaper and last longer than alkaline batteries. I now mark the batteries I purchase with the purchase date to keep track of them. I'm still using rechargeable batteries that I purchased three years ago, they just don't quite give me the life that the new ones do.
I’ve also purchased another charger and two sets of C and D size rechargeable batteries for some of my other cameras. This whole package was not cheap but purchasing alkaline C and D size batteries is expensive. The rechargeable batteries should pay for themselves in a few months if not sooner.
I've used these batteries in several of our cameras and have had varying results. Some cameras will only operate a few days on them while others will operate for a few weeks. It all depends no the digital trail camera that you are using. To see how long the rechargeable batteries last in the individual cameras please read the review for that trail camera.
So far I have nothing but good things to say about the rechargeable AA’s. I highly recommend that you use them in your digital scouting cameras.
I have used Rayovac, Energizer and Digital brand AA NiMH rechargeable batteries and all have performed very well.
