StalkerCamMy previous experience with the Sony S600 and our experience with this camera has confirmed an A grade for picture quality. This digital camera takes the most brilliant color pictures of all of the digital cameras that I have used personally and in any of our trail cameras. The S600 also has a larger flash than most other digital cameras, which is good for lighting up distant deer. The first set of pictures revealed a little flash bleed so I added a black foam washer around the flash hole and this problem dissapeared. Read about the StalkerCam picture qaulity and see example pictures here. The trigger speed is in the middle of the speeds we have tested. It was not among the fastest but was consistent and could not be considered extremely slow. The StalkerCam uses a 9 volt battery to operate the control board which should last a few months and AA batteries to operate the digital camera. I have been using rechargeable NiMh batteries in my cameras with a lot of success. This camera also has the capacity to install six additional AA batteries for camera operation. This extra battery capacity has increased the number of pictures that can be taken. In a two week period the StalkerCam took 1354 pictures and the batteries were still operating. This number of pictures is more than the other similar cameras. Setup was easy with dip switch controls for the control board and I’ve become quite efficient using the camera menus to change camera settings. One small problem I'm currently having is that the Sony camera can be a little difficult to turn on. The modification for this camera puts wires near the power button which can cause this problem. Over the first few months this has not been a significant problem. The StalkerCam is made with a pipe-through design, which provides excellent tree attachment using a Python Locking cable. The cable is not provided with the camera but is available from the camera maker or they can also be purchased elsewhere. The camera has 32 Mb of internal memory but this does not store many pictures. We currently use 512 Mb and 1Gb memory cards. The Sony 6.0 camera has a 2.0 inch LCD screen for viewing pictures in the field. There is also a USB cable to download the pictures to your computer. The Sony S600 does not imprint the date and time on the pictures, you have to look at the picture files to see the date and time of each picture. This is a downside but I’ve grown used to it and the great picture quality makes up for this downside. The StalkerCam has eight time delays ranging from 15 seconds to 30 minutes. This trail cam also has the capability of taking two pictures per activation and a rapid pic mode that will leave the camera powered up for 30 seconds to take additional pictures upon movement as soon as the camera flash is recharged. Short videos can be taken with the StalkerCam and the digital camera can be removed and used as a handheld camera. I have given the StalkerCam an A for an overall grade. The Sony S600 is an excellent digital camera and the operation of the control board and extra batteries has been very good. This digital trail camera will be on my list of dependable cameras that I want to keep in the woods. Below is a picture taken with the StalkerCam. The StalkerCam is available with a new, refurbished or used Sony S600 camera.
