Tecomate Lablab Plus

Tecomate Lablab Plus is an annual seed blend that can be planted in either the spring or late summer. We planted a plot in August of 2006.

Lablab plus is a mix of Lablab, peas and grain sorghum.

Before planting we added enough lime to account for over one ton per acre and applied 19-19-19 fertilizer. This area had also had some lime applied earlier in the spring.

After working the ground with our disks we sowed the seed and used the disks to cover the seed. Our plot was only about a quarter acre in size.

The young lablab and peas have jumped up real quick but the deer mowed it down in September while the sorghum was still starting to grow. Unfortunately there was not enough growing season left for the sorghum to develop seed heads so this plant did little to help the deer.

I wouldn’t plant Tecomate Lablab Plus in the late summer again. There isn’t any value in planting sorghum if it doesn’t have the time to mature and develop seed heads. I’ll give it a try next spring to give it a longer growing season and see how it goes.
