Donkey Deer

Donkey Deer

Pictures taken with a Wild Game Innovations $50.00 cheapie. We have 4 other cameras but some are the 35mm design.

One of the spikes pictured I named a donkey deer because he looks like one. We have a farmer nearby that has a donkey honking in the morning hours that's funny to hear when on stand in the woods.

The night shots are by a hearty creek that seems to be rut trails only as I revisited them after and are not traveled anymore. I set up a camera on many and after 2 weeks no traffic noted.

The 6 point I saw (pictured) one morning on stand at our rub line "Hilltop" stand. This line is heavily hit for approx 250 yards long! I believe he's the culprit here.
The trail splits at the creek and that rub line goes left uphill and the other goes along the creek and this is where the pictures were taken at a scrape at night.

The huge cat looks to be a bobcat but a panther was shot a few years back in the same county we have our 500 acre reserve on so, anythings possible.

Some of the other pics are from different scrape locations and in a thick wooded area.

I'll include pictures of the various stands we have and have many more planned like 4, 24' Star Gazers to really get out of sight. We have stands located in different areas for the changing foliage season as well as bow, crossbow, pistol, shotgun and high power rifle stands

We just started hunting and caring for this land as it was just purchased last year and I did a lot of dozer work clearing up 50 acres where the land was clear cut 2-3 years ago. This area was heavily traveled during this years rut.

Pictures range from animals, land shots and stand.

Enjoy,
SGM

The rub photos are just a few of the many that have been hit. The "Hill Top" stand is positioned so the rub line goes from left to right in front of the hunter.

The picture of the stand was taken from the rub line looking back at the stand.

"Hill Top" 2 man stand

This 2 man stand is up the hill on the 250+ long rub line that splits off the creek rut trail. Behind this stand is a huge clear cut area complete with bottoms and sage brush.

A 360 degree view is possible from this stand @ 16'5" up.

"Cutover" Stand

by SGM
(SWC Georgia)

"Cutover" stand

This stand is located in a cutover area quite some distance from all the other stands close to the main road where the deer cross into our area.

This stand is approx. 100yds from the creek edge and roadway. The deer heavily travel this area as well as use it for a bedding area in selected locations.

8 pointer / Nov 03, 2009

He was shot at dusk on Nov 03, 2009 and by the neck size it was rut time. His rack resembles the 6 pointer in the night pic on the rut trail. Maybe his blood line is evident.

Creek Crossing Area

by SGM
(SWC Georgia)

Creekside crossing

Creekside crossing

This is the creek crossing area to get to the other side or backside portion of some of the property.

This is where I have to cross to get to the "Hilltop" stand across from the "December" stand in other pictures.

When we have heavy rains in excess inches this creek swells to the banks and is not crossable at all. This means no hunting the other side where I call it the playground during the rut and where the long rub line is too!

This high power stand is 20' up in the trees. It's really camo'd in the bow season time frame but is still an excellent stand all year long. Looking at this stand the deer activity area is approx. 60' away to the left.

The creek is right behind this stand and is a major crossing area as seen by the activity area tracks picture.

East creek shot view

East creek shot view

These are the pictures of Hearty Creek that runs through the 500 acre reserve. This creek was mentioned in other stand pictures. This is a main attraction for the wildlife in the area.

It reminds me of the African rivers that bring all animals to it for a refreshing drink or crossing location. The deer heavily use the creek for all activities so it seems.

Fork horn youngster

Fork horn youngster

These pictures were at the "Magnolia" stand. I saw quite a bit of activity all over the ground when I returned the next day or so.

Turkey, deer and raccoons were the visitors as it appears. The trail camera caught the raccoon and deer but the daytime turkeys that were scratching like chickens for scratch feed left their mark during the day or days prior to the camera being put in place.

I should have more pictures to post later as long as the rechargeable camera batteries hold up in the extreme cold that's devastating us in the deep South.

"December" Creek Side Stand

by Sergeant Major
(SWC Georgia)

"December" creek side stand

This stand is directly across the creek from where all those rut trail photos were taken. It watches the rut trail. This stand is also on another run on this side of the creek to boot! The stealthy location 18' up proves to be an excellent bow and pistol stand and shot gun and rifle stand later in the season.
Deer have been seen right under this stand while in it!
Watching the far side of the creek for traffic is the other plus and there is even a heavily traveled creek crossing from where this picture was taken. The creek bank drops 8-10 ft here so they take the easy route by going through the wash out area just behind where I took this pic.
