August 26th, 2015 Whitetail Photographs
At this time of the year the buck's antlers are pretty much done growing so it's time to see how much they've changed from last year. The big eight point, overbite and the ten point from the old house have all put on additional antler size this year. The only buck that I'm having a hard time convincing myself he grew more antler this year is the ten point with the short G-2's. This is his third year as a ten point. He grew bigger last year, but we can't see much progress this year. The funny thing is that he is the boss when he's around other bucks. Even those with larger antlers. I'd like to get a look at him this year.
We got pictures of all of our bigger bucks this week. The ten point from the old house area showed up a lot in front of our cameras this week after being hard to see for a while. Figure that one out. The other ten point showed up in three locations this week after not being seen at all the week before. You just never know.
We put a feeder in a clump of trees in the hay field. It's been a long while since we've done this. It'll be fun watching to see what shows up there.
The bucks will be shedding their velvet soon so we'll probably try to do a little exploring soon around the edges of our property. Sometimes we find a new buck. We'll probably look for a nine point and a nice size eight point we saw last year.
We put bucket feeders up high to see what the black bear would do and he didn't disappoint. He climbed the tree at the middle clearing and bent the limb down, putting the feeder within reach. We think he may have fallen out of the tree when he was after the feeder. He didn't climb the tree again. Make sure you take a look at the black bear pictures, we got quite a few.
We didn't get any bobcat or coyote pictures this week. Check back next week.
After catching this buck at a distance he showed up this week giving us a lot of pictures.
Take a look at this buck in last years pictures and see if you think he's gotten bigger.
I think this was one of our small eight point bucks last year. He's a nice buck, but the big ones overshadow him.
The little seven point buck.
I really want to see this buck in person. Maybe with a bow in my hand?
The overbite buck has grown into a respectable eight point buck. He's the most visible buck on our place.
