The last day of shotgun season, I was walking out of the woods in the afternoon empty handed, when I looked across the field and was lucky enough to see him turn his head. He was bedded in some tall grass, and all I could see was his antlers. I was a good 300 yards away but still down wind. I immediately returned to the tree line that I came from that has a grass line that leads right to him. I got down on all fours, and crawled till I thought I was close enough to shoot. I pointed the gun in the direction I thought he was and slowly stood up. Sure enought, He was less than 20 yards away, and standing now. After 1 shot with my 12 gauge, he didn't go 20 feet. It was my most exciting hunt.
