We've learned a couple things this summer watching our trail camera at our mineral licks. The first is that we have captured very few pictures of bucks at these licks. Over the past two weeks we only had two pictures of a buck with our camera overlooking the mineral lick at the old house and he didn't stick around long. So, it doesn't look to me like bucks taking in minerals as their antlers grow through the summer. Spring maybe, summer not so much. On the other hand there is plenty of doe activity at these sites.
In our set of pictures from July 16th we got a nice black bear picture that we posted. The last two weeks only gave us one bear picture, but is was only his ear and top of his head so we won't bother with that one. The interesting thing is that he showed up in the evening after my son and his family brush hogged that food plot. Hmmmm
As I said we haven't been getting many buck pictures, but we have three here for you along with a real nice fawn picture.
Here is a small buck from about three weeks ago at a different mineral lick.
Fawn pictures are always nice to see. We got several the past two weeks.
The first picture of a nice buck. Both pictures were taken within the same minute. He didn't stick around for long. We think this buck was an eight point last year and has put on a decent amount of antler size. That's encouraging.
The second picture of the same buck. He seems to be walking away from the mineral lick.
