March 28th Whitetail Photographs

We've admitted that pictures could be a little tough to pick, but this week it was real tough. I had to look through them twice to get six good pictures. That being said we still found some good ones. This time of the year their antlers are just starting to become bumps. It seems like it takes forever for them to start growing, but it still amazes me how fast they grow once they get to June and July.

We did get the opportunity to clear a small patch that branches off of our old house food plot. We're just not sure whether we'll try to plant it as a food plot or if we want to try to plant apple trees in it....or maybe both. Deer love apples and it would be a great place to hunt, but our experience has shown us that our apple trees aren't always productive. We have two trees out there now that had apples on them last year, but the raccons climbed them and ate the apples.

We're still monitoring the corn feeders and protein feed sites. I think the deer switch from the protein feed to the mineral licks depending on when everything greens up. I'm sure hoping the weather warms up soon to green things up. I'm getting tired of the winter-like weather. We found last year that the deer preferred natural green vegetation to the protein feed. We'll see when this happens again this year.

This week we got one more coyote picture. Maybe it's going to be a big year for coyote pictures.

One of our bucks at a feeder, not sure which buck though.

This looks like a young one, but too close to tell.

We caught a fight again this week.

This is the buck with the biggest antlers to date. He will be a trophy soon.

I saw you put that in your mouth....now spit it out!

Two bucks found the protein feed the evening we put it out.
