It was 1992 in the middle of Nov...my dad and I got a late start , it was about 8:30 AM and I didn't plan on seeing anything. We went to some TVA land in southern Maury County and decided to just do some walking. We came to this large cut corn field and my dad (Roger Smithson) decided that he was going to walk through the thicket next to the corn field. While he was going through the thicket I was halfway across the field and I heard him shoot and he yelled "HERE HE COMES" I didnt know where he was going to come out at..and all of the sudden he busted out of the thicket 20 yards in front of me and he was moving..I pulled up and all I saw was hair in the scope because he was so close, so I just shot and hit him right in the rear and he hit the ground and got back up by this time he was further out and the next shot was dead in the shoulder dropping him for good. He was killed with a savage 270 ..130 grain bullet . He measured 18 outside spread with some of his points being 9 1/2 and 10 1/2 inches long...He was the 2nd buck I killed with the first being a spike.
