October 31st Whitetail Photographs

The last week of October, a tough and shorter week for pictures. We didn't get any pictures of any of our new bigger bucks and we didn't get a picture of one of our ten point bucks. I'd like to blame it on the fact we gathered our pictures on Thursday this week giving us one less day of pictures, but I don't think that would tell the full story. I'd say that part of the blame could go to the tendency for bucks to roam around looking for does at this time of the year. Sometimes when this happens we get pictures of never seen before bucks and sometimes it means we have a lean week. One other possible explanation could be that the pipeline work ended and the deer may be shifting areas again. It's hard to tell.

The only new bucks that we still saw this week were a small eight point buck and the interesting looking seven point. Maybe we can trade one of them for one of the bigger bucks next week.

An interesting observation is that we saw three of our bigger bucks at the old house, which is closest to the old gas well that is going to be plugged. Go figure, the bucks were seen nearest the activity and the area farthest from this activity didn't give us many bigger buck pictures this week. Just when I think I have them figured out, they fool me again.

This week we stuck with cameras at the feeders and attractants and we also kept them at three scrapes that showed sign of use lately. It seems like they're not sticking with scrapes this year. Maybe we've found a hot one this week.

Again this week we didn't get any coyote, bobcat or black bear pictures again this week. Check again next week.

Pictures are showing us that this is our biggest bodied buck.

Here you can see the body size difference between the ten point and the biggest eight point buck.

The big eight point buck up close.

Do you think this little buck has been rubbing a lot of trees?

We did catch the overbite buck quite a distance from his normal area.

The odd shaped seven point buck showed up again this week.

We'd like to know how the big eight point got berry stain on his antlers. When we first saw it we thought it was blood.
