Ohio Bow Hunt November 2013 "Old Crook"

I was invited to hunt a small tract of land in Ohio. It was 20 degrees with 2 inches of snow in the shade.

Going in green, I did a quick once over of the property and at 2:00 in the afternoon I decided to set up in a thicket of mature white pines at the base of a ridge line about 60 yards off the edge of an overgrown field near a wide stream crossing. There was scant sign but I had a good feeling after studying the geography.

Using my Old Man climber, I cut the dead snags off as I made my way up the white pine to my standard 24' perch.

At 4:45 pm I spotted a buck running across the field stopping every 80 yards or so to pick up scent of a doe. I watched him working back and forth for 15 minutes.

When he headed alongside the thicket I was in, using my voice I mimicked a doe and he turned 90 degrees and came straight towards the tree I was in.

I use a Mathews Reezon and I arrowed him at twenty yards and he went down 30 yards beyond the shot.

He dressed out at 207# with an 18 1/2" inside spread, 8 1/2" brow tines and heavy mass throughout. I refer to him as "Old Crook" because his left side G2 is bent 90 degrees backwards.

He was converted to hamburger and sausage.

So bright and colorful, Rob! I envy you even a bit:) I work as a help-man for a hunter of our district. I usually write articles to promote my boss's photos and his achievements. Though I've never seen such a beauty.
