September 28th, 2015 Whitetail Photographs

All of our bucks have shed their velvet, which we expect for late September. A small spike and the overbite buck still had velvet at the beginning of this set and both shed early in this thirteen day period.

Bow season opened up on Saturday and we got word that a thirteen point buck was killed on the next ridge over. Without a doubt we'd never seen this buck on our side of the hill. We're still seeing all of our bucks and I saw two on Monday evening when I went out to collect the memory cards.

Cameras that weren't on our regular spots didn't come up with a lot this time. We got our best pictures at our regular haunts. It was raining when I set up the cameras for the next week so I didn't get real creative. I doubled up on two feeders along with a camera on a long time licking branch and another on a food plot location that sees a lot of deer activity.

We still don't have any tree stands up, we're way behind. For some reason I think I'm trying to deny that fall has arrived. Maybe I'm still not over the cold weather from last winter.

The black bear came back and we got another good set of pictures of him along with a coyote picture from the camera we placed along a trail leading into the hayfield.

The buck with the strange jaw after shedding his velvet. He didn't seem to travel as much this week.

Here is the ten point buck we'd really like to get a look at.

This is the other ten point that seems to be stuck at this size.

The eight point we call crab claw. Notice that this picture was taken the exact moment that the other camera flashed, creating a shadow. This is a first for us and created a unique picture.

This seven point appears to have genetics similar to the white foot buck we had on our place a couple of years ago. Hopefully he also has the same antler genetics. Take a look back at the white foot buck from 2013.

Here's a young buck that just couldn't get those brow tines to develop.

Surely this buck has the biggest antlers on our property.
